How To Develop Your SEO Strategy

When you start running a website, you tend to think it will increase the sales after a few months. Well, you’ll think so, if you are not an SEO guru. This post is written for them who are not professional in SEO and internet marketing, but they own a web site or a business or want to earn a little money-making some activities in the net. Though SEO specialists can take a glance at it, they do the most things I’ve penned here.

You have to plan your SEO strategy, otherwise, you’ll fail. It’s guaranteed. First, doing SEO is not as easy as you can think. Second, even a well-planned SEO campaign fails, I’m not talking about unplanned projects. Anyway, as they say, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. There are a few steps you should pass through to get the desired results, and I recommend to take a look at them.

SEO strategy 1. (GOALS)

I’ve seen many business owners that wanted to expand their market share without any investment. I’ve also seen a business owner that had only one goal-earn as much as possible. There are many websites in the net doing nothing. They are just there. Maybe you are among these people, and I’m not going to criticize you, but all you should know that owning a website won’t benefit if you don’t know the rules. And the first rule is the GOAL. You should know what you want in all its shades. So when you’re asked what you want, do not answer to earn more money or expand the market share (to earn more money). The correct answer should be “I want to increase my incomes via the site I run”. Once your answer in this way (even, to yourself), there will arise the next question-“how you’ll do that?” But before we’ll talk about the ways, let’s figure it out completely.

As for SEO goals, you must set realistic goals. Say, it’s not logical to implement an SEO campaign for a dozen keywords simultaneously. You must choose the keywords you want to be on the first page. Those keywords must describe your business and they should differ. You can also implement a long-period SEO campaign chain, and on each phase of that project choose and optimize one of your product keywords. In the end you’ll get a completely optimized web site.

Setting the right goals is mostly related to how you’re performing now and how you want to perform in the future. It’s also related to the audience you are going to work for. And at least, you can’t pass by your competitors’ goals and achievements.

SEO strategy 2. (Investment/Budget)

I’ve heard about those magicians that do marketing with a $0 budget. Yes, it’s possible, but only 1 from thousands will succeed. If you have enough time to play with destiny, go ahead. But our world changes every second and I don’t believe we have much time to play the lottery. It’s better to set an exact budget for an SEO campaign and organize steps according to it. Agree, it will be more effective.

Determining the budget size is closely related to the goals of the project, with the competitors, with the factor whether you are consulting with a specialist or do it yourself and many more. Here is no certain recommendation I can give you, but you should remember it’s always energizing to reach your goals with minimal resources.

SEO strategy 3. (Keywords)

After you’ve decided how much you’re going to spend to implement your goals, you can go to the next step and make good keyword research. Today I won’t talk about the methods, but you should know that your competitors always spy on you. Thus you must always find out new long-tail phrases and other keywords that describe your product in the best way. This will help you to go further from your closest competitors and show better results. Some keywords receive more traffic, some receive less, so you have to determine which one works better for you. I mean ignore the traffic levels for a moment and took a look at searcher intent, competition level, and stage of the marketing funnel.

SEO strategy 4. (Quality site)

A website is thought to be successful and effective if everything is well thought out. The domain and subdomains must be connected with your keywords, the content you provide must be fresh, literate, interesting and useful, the website should be user-friendly (and spider-friendly), easy-to-navigate, and has its mobile version too.

If you don’t have your own brand, it’s better to choose a domain that will always walk step by step to your keywords. Moreover, it’s more acceptable to set subdomains instead of new domains.

Providing a viral content is one of the keys to getting higher on Google ranking. It’s another topic for conversation, so let’s stop here. You just have to know Google doesn’t love short, copied or futile content anymore.

When you run a website, look at it through the eyes of simple users. If it’s easy to use than you’re on the right track. But if it takes too much to get where you want, change it immediately. Plus, your site must be comprehensible for search engines. As you know modern search engines are spider-driven (Google, Yahoo, MSN), thus robots spider “each site and “score” pages based on how relevant they are. The ranking/scoring is implemented by a special algorithm including different groups of factors (more than 200 factors). So if not all but many of them should be included in your strategy as well.

SEO strategy 5. (Audit and analyzes)

When acting according to an SEO strategy, it’s important to audit the current status of indicators and analyze them during the plan implementation.

First, it’s always a big question whether it deserves to choose a long-term SEO strategy instead of PPC. It’s always hard to make a decision, but here are some tweaks to help you in this case. We have talked about the first factor at the beginning-it’s budget. As for the practical part, when you have no money, better choose SEO. But if you’re ready to pay, PPC seems to be more acceptable, because when we pay Google for “sponsored links”, no matter what an SEO campaign you organize, your site will appear on the first page.

Second, there are many niches requiring a higher budget to run a successful PPC campaign, because it’s directly related to the “cost-per-click” (CPC) factor. The higher the CPS the keyword has, the higher the budget you need.

The third and the last factor influencing your choice is how competitive your search engine results in pages (SERPs) are in your industry. So it can turn out you’ve made a tremendous work, but there are competitors you cannot outstrip ever.

As you see there are at least 5 steps you should pass to get the best from your SEO strategy. The aforementioned recommendations show that you must know what you want, how much you’ll spend to reach your goal, what you need to do, how it should look in eyes of users and spiders and how to track your plan not to get off the right path.

There are a few factors that many mentions as an SEO strategy factors, I mean the social media, product images, and many other secondary aspects you should work in the frame of your strategy, but I think these are part of SEO instructions and couldn’t have a giant influence on the strategy.
